Dr. Andrew Kaplan is an Internal Medicine specialist with a successful practice in New York City. Known for his compassion and a consistent history of providing low-cost healthcare for “rescued” animals, Dr. Kaplan now dedicates his time to making a difference on a much larger scale. His purpose and mission of The Toby Project is to end pet overpopulation -- the number one killer of dogs and cats in this country.
Dr. Kaplan received his Bachelor of Science degree from Albany State University in 1986, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He then attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1990. Kaplan performed an internship and medical residency at the prestigious Animal Medical Center from 1990 through 1993. He then taught for 1 year at The University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine, after which time, in 1995, he became a board-certified Internal Medicine Specialist. In 2003, he started City Veterinary Care, a veterinary hospital now known as one of the finest in the city.
In 2006, Kaplan formed a plan that would in time come to be known as “The Toby Project” – named for his Wolfhound-Lab mix who he adopted from the city shelter on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized.
